Games that are currently running should be shown in the server-browser.
It is just a mind thing and I can only talk for myself, but
if I go to the multiplayer I see no one there.
There is no global chat where you would know that others are around.
The only way to see if people are there is to create a game and wait if somebody connects.
Even on the windows-steam version: http://youtu.be/0H4_7oCxGhs?t=1m2s
People are thinking: Oh, no one is playing this online. So it seems not to be that good. And because there is no one online why should I?
So at least showing running games would help people realize that there are people playing this game.
For the long run a ingame chat is definitely required.
For that a simple ingame irc client should be enough.
It should be that big of a deal.

Should be easy:
Just continue to send the broadcast message.
Opening a game and filling all places the game is still shown in the server browser but nobody can connect because it is full. Now if the game is started and the broadcast would still be send the server browser would show that server with all places being full. Nobody can connect. But it would still show up in the list.
Just enough to see that others are playing ;-)
