So why are You guys advertising Linux support while You ship only half of the product for this platform?
How are we (linux users) suppose to play with other people while there is no lobby?
By using IRC maybe? It's XXI century, not 90s and this is not opensource game, it's marked as tripleA at Desura... my ass.

I'm extremly disappointed. Wasted 20 bucks.

I totally agree with you on this. I noticed a lot of the users on the forums are Linux users.

Lobby requires huge server infrastructure, which exists in Steam. Unfortunately there is no such API available in Linux (Desura one isn't ready yet) so there is no global lobby. Anyway, there is a LAN multiplayer and direct connection via Internet there.

I'm sorry that you are disappointed. You can make a refund, if you think that it's right.

The problem is that I really like Oil Rush, I love that it's for linux also (best linux rts since... ever), that's why this is so disappointing. What pisses me off is lack of communication in this matter.

Are there any plans for lobby system in linux version in some near future?

If Desura API will be finally working and there will be a server infrastructure available - yes, we'll add its support for Linux.

The best solution would be to integrate an in-game IRC client kinda like Frozen Synapse does that automatically connects you to a matchmaking channel.

I don't understand your system. Be realistic, there will be never thousand players online at the same time.
Since the game itself will run on the players computers, the multiplayer server just needs a chat lobby, a database for player logins and game statistics and that's all.

I have the same problem.

The lobby stays empty forever.

Tried the two releases on windows. The unigine store direct, and the steam one.

Quite a problem for a RTS not being able to play through internet.

Quick question: I know some games that use the steam lobby localize the lobby depending upon which steam mirror you connect to. Is this the case, or is the lobby global?

The problem is that I live in australia, so I'm not expecting a lot of people online at the same time. Having a global lobby (with a ping value thrown in, of course) would make it a lot easier.

RakNet has a lobby system inside.
(I helped a friend getting it working on an UDK3 game.)
http://www.raknet.ne...nual/lobby.html

As Desura now is open source "we" could try to incorporate here and try to integrate the lobby system into Desura and then into Oil Rush.
https://github.com/lodle/Desurium

There is also Grapple where we could get some code from and use it somehow:
